If you’ve ever felt intimidated by color theory or unsure about mixing paint, you’ll feel right at home here. Melanie teaches foundational concepts in a simple, approachable way with step-by-step guidance that builds confidence as you go.

Whether you’re just starting your creative journey or you’ve been making art for years, you’ll walk away with a deeper understanding of color and a more personal, meaningful way to use it in your everyday creative life.

No — and that’s the beauty of it.

You’ll learn the same foundational color principles and techniques, but your color stories, journal pages, and mixed media explorations will reflect your memories, emotions, preferences, and faith journey. Melanie provides guidance and structure, but there is plenty of room for personal expression.

This course isn’t about copying a finished piece. It’s about building understanding and confidence so you can create work that feels authentic, meaningful, and uniquely yours.

You’re encouraged to use what you already have and the mediums you love. This course is about exploration, not having the “perfect” supplies.

At a minimum, you’ll want:

• A watercolor paint set (or basic primary colors, plus black and white)

• Watercolor paper or a watercolor journal

• A small watercolor brush

• A mixing surface (plate or paint palette)

• Pencil, ruler, scissors, and glue stick

• An upcycled planner or spiral-bound journal to create in

• Magazines or printed images for collage inspiration

Optional but fun additions include acrylic paints, gesso, palette knife, masking tape, crayons (like Neo Color II), and simple bookbinding or paper tools.

A detailed supply list with specific brand suggestions and alternatives will be provided inside the course, but truly, start with what you have and build from there.

You absolutely do not need expensive, professional-grade supplies to begin.

A basic watercolor set, an old planner or spiral notebook, a brush, scissors, glue, and a plate for mixing are more than enough to get started. You can use magazine clippings for collage, printer paper for experimenting, and whatever paints you already own.

This course is about learning to see color differently and building confidence, not collecting art supplies. Start where you are. Use what you have. Let the creativity grow from there.
